I awoke to the sound of the birds chirping. It was such a lovely, beautiful sound. I smiled as I rolled out of bed. I stood up and walked across my room to my standing mirror. I took a long look at my morning self; messy hair, bad breath, crumpled tank top. The usual look for me in the morning. After I slip on some casual clothes, I head downstairs for some breakfast. I pour a bowl of cereal and enjoy it as I watch some cartoons. I know I'm too old to watch kid shows, but I love them anyways! After I put my bowl and spoon in the sink and give them a quick rinse, I quickly put my running shoes on. I hesitate before I grab my keys, then decide I won't need them. I awkwardly jog to my back door and make sure its not locked. I put the chain on, but leave the door itself unlocked. I jiggle the door knob one last time and take a last glance at the chain before I walk to my front door. I messily pull my hair into a pony tail and take a deep breath. I open my door and step outside locking it behind me. I take a long, calming, 30 minute jog. When I can see my house again, finally, I'm breathing heavy and sweating badly. I jog onto my back porch and sigh as I twist my door knob. I swing the door open, and shut it behind me with my foot. At that moment I was too tired to even realize, that the chain was no longer on. I quickly, and almost, with out any thought as if I do it everyday, rip the fridge open and take out a fresh cold bottle of water. I twist off the top and take a deep gulp. After, I take a couple slow breaths and collect myself. It wasn't until I was sitting in my living room watching my favorite show, that I realized that the chain wasn't on the door. I cautiously stand up and peek into the kitchen. The chain is still, and hanging from its bolt on the wall, near my door. I start to hyperventilate as I hear footsteps upstairs. I live alone, always have. No husband, kids, pets, nothing. I decide that I need to get out of there, right then and now. I almost run out of my house not bothering to check anything. After about 20 minutes, I decide it's safe and I head back home. I approach my house, and I start breathing heavy again. I step on my porch and pause in front of my back door. I reach out for the handle and open the door, but it snaps back towards me with enough room for my arm to get in. I stick my arm through the opening and that's when it hits me. The chain was on.
A chilling short story :3 Enjoy And Fav plz!
